Vernon "Ray" Inman, passed away peacefully at home on September 17, 2026. Born on May 10, 1939, in Jackson, Tennessee, Ray was the son of the late Garthel Almer Inman and Kate Alice Crawford Inman.
Ray is survived by his wife of 48 years Kathy Inman. Three sons: Dentis Inman, and his wife Brenda; Doug Inman, and his wife Dicenia; and Matt Inman, and his wife Kim. Ten grandchildren: Tonya(Chad), Andrew, James(Tiffany), Emily, Cheyenne(Jesse), Madison, Bailey, Ben, Khaleesi, and Niobe. 7 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, John G Inman, and his wife Teresa. One niece Kate Inman and husband Dan, and one nephew John C Inman and wife Johanna and 3 great nieces and one great nephew.
Ray was a proud Veteran of the United States Navy having served from 1958-1963. 3 of those years were spent as a Sonarman on the USS Forster with his final rank as a Petty Officer Second Class(E5). On March 27, 1961 Ray received a Good Conduct Medal for his steady reliability. After his time in the service he worked his way into an Insurance Agent eventually opening his own Insurance Agency which he owned and operated until his retirement.
Ray had a love for flying airplanes, boating, and shooting guns and spent many years enjoying these hobbies. In his later years he wanting nothing more than to be at his home "on the hill" where he could tinker in the yard or his tool shed, and shoot his guns off in the woods.
A family celebration of life will be held at a later date.
