Sylvia Georgia Pingleton, 76, passed away peacefully at home on the morning of December 16, 2023, in Clarksville, TN. Sylvia had recently been diagnosed with stage IV brain cancer and succumbed to her illness just over two months after her diagnosis. Though her passing was sudden and is nothing short of heartbreaking for her family and dear friends, the timing is truly bittersweet in nature as she was a vibrant and outspoken soul prior to her diagnosis and declined treatment, choosing instead to enjoy the rest of her days with family, even celebrating 20 years of marriage just three days prior to her passing.
Sylvia, or as many lovingly referred to her as, "Mum", was born in Germany to Ira Angermann and George Snowden. Her father was a British Soldier and moved the family to Leeds, England in the early 1950's where Sylvia would live until her mid-20's before moving to the United States. Sylvia first landed in Ft. Lauderdale, FL where she worked as a nanny and eventually moved with the family to Chicago, IL, later working in advertising. In the late 1970's, Sylvia found herself moving yet again, but this time across the U.S. to Southern California where she would reside for the majority of her life, raising her only child, Angela, and marrying her beloved husband, Edward Pingleton in December of 2003.
Mum fiercely loved her family, traveling often to as far as Australia to visit her one and only sister, Erika. Mum's boisterous personality and love of "Oldie Goldies" will live on forever in the minds and hearts of those who knew her best. Her ability to turn almost any gathering into a party was uncanny and she never turned down an excuse to share a glass of wine with friends. She will be missed deeply as she is survived by her husband, Edward Pingleton; daughter, Angela (James) Bosma; sister, Erika (Jamie) Iles; and her fur-grandson, Cask.
Mum never wanted to be remembered at a funeral or wake, but instead wanted a gathering to celebrate her life with friends and family. Thus, a Celebration of Life will be held at Old Glory Distilling Co. on Thursday, December 28, 2023 at 6:00 PM. A few pours in her honor and plenty of love, laughter, and an abundance of happy tears will be shared. Please reach out to Angela if you will be attending.
Please visit Sylvia's tribute wall and share a memory with the family.
