Stephen Richard Leggett

January 1, 1957 — October 5, 2025

Clarksville

Stephen (“Steve”) Richard Leggett, age 68, of Clarksville, TN, passed away peacefully on October 5, 2025. Steve was born on January 1, 1957, in Norfolk, VA, and had the distinction of being the city’s first baby born that year. He was the beloved son of the late Walter and Laura Leggett and was raised in Norfolk before spending most of his adult life in Virginia Beach. In 2018, he and his wife relocated to Clarksville, TN.

Steve retired as a Service Technician in the restaurant and food service industry in 2015, where he was known for his strong work ethic. He was a member of Coleman Place Presbyterian Church.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Eva Mae Smith and Patricia Miller.

Steve cherished his family above all. He is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Deborah (“Debbie”); his daughter, Kelly and her husband, Willie; and his son, Stephen “Kyle.” He was a proud and loving PopPop to five grandchildren: Wyatt, Hailey, Weston, Jackson, and Kayleen. He is also survived by his older brother, Walter, Jr. and wife, Eloise.

Steve had a passion for fixing things and bringing new life to the old and forgotten. He enjoyed working on his truck, repairing lawn mowers and garden equipment, and restoring used items. He was a lover of music, especially classic records, and had an extensive collection of albums and CDs. A talented air-guitarist, Steve once DJed in his younger years and never lost his love for the classics.

Known for his easygoing and friendly nature, Steve never met a stranger. He enjoyed deep conversations on just about any topic and had a special appreciation for hearing stories from older generations.

In accordance with his wishes, the family will hold a private ceremony in Virginia Beach, VA in the coming weeks. Steve requested no large funeral, preferring a more intimate farewell.

He will be remembered for his warmth, humor, and the love he shared so freely with those around him.
