Sondra Mae Johnson (Burrows)

Aug 4, 1951 — May 14, 2026

Clarksville

We are deeply saddened to share that Sondra Mae Johnson, Grammy, Mother, Wife, Aunt and Friend, passed away on May 14, 2026 quietly at home after a short battle with cancer, surrounded by family. She was 74 years old.

She was born August 4th 1951, in Elko, Nevada and lived in New Jersey, California, Wisconsin, Virginia and ended up in Tennessee for the rest of her days.

Sondra had many careers over her life, radiology technician, committees broker, certified netware engineer, software training manager, ap/ar/gl/pr programmer for brokerage firm, foster mother, regular mom, and Project Coordinator at Jacobs Brown publishing. She designed the interiors of numerous publications. She also led promotional campaigns for many books, most notably the acclaimed These Are The Voyages trilogy. She was involved in community CERT and helped coordinate disaster preparedness drills, awareness and action plans.

She loved her family. There was nothing she wouldn’t give to make them happy. She would pull out anything from the Aflac quacking ducks to the annual Christmas frog still alive after almost twenty years and still ribbiting. She took pride in home decor; refurbishing tables to give away to adding braided white trim to a bathroom ceiling to having coco mulch in her courtyard so she could constantly smell chocolate. She enjoyed the ocean and traveling to visit family and lifelong friends. She never took left turns as she was always right.

She loved tomato sandwiches and had a special tomato knife so think of her the next time you slice into a big juicy tomato off the vine. She loved decorating for holidays; Nutcrackers for Christmas and Easter eggs for Spring. Her favorite recipes were lasagna, peach cake, coleslaw and German chocolate cake.

Sondra and her husband Herbert “Andy” Johnson married in 1981 and were partners for 45 years. She is survived by Andy, her two sons Matthew and Brian, her daughter-in-laws Mica and Mallory and three grandchildren Renin, Kinslee and Carter.

Please visit Sondra's tribute wall and share a memory with the family.
