James William "Jim" Gent, 76, of Clarksville, TN, passed away on July 3, 2024. Born on June 14, 1948, in Rockford, Illinois, Jim dedicated 21 years of his life to serving in the U.S. Army, from 1978 to 1999. Following his military service, he continued his commitment to public safety as a Tennessee State Corrections Officer and later as a Montgomery County Sheriff Deputy.

Jim was a man of many interests and talents. He was an avid sports fan, regularly watching and coaching football and basketball. Jim was a car enthusiast and loved fast cars and watching races. An accomplished cook, Jim was a chef in another life, he willingly crafted meals that brought friends and family together. His hobbies also included fishing and landscaping, which allowed him to appreciate the outdoors and the simple joys of life.

A graduate of West High School, Jim furthered his education at Rock Valley College and the University of California, Santa Barbara. His educational and military backgrounds shaped a life marked by discipline, respect, and a deep sense of duty.

Above all, Jim was a devoted father to his sons, Matthew and Michael, who survive him. He was described as incredibly kind, generous, and hardworking—always ready to help others in any way he could, whether that be a warm meal or the shirt off of his back. Jim's legacy is characterized by his unwavering support and love for his family, his service to his country, and his passion for life's various pursuits.

Jim's cremated remains will be buried at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery-West on a date to be determined. Tennessee Cremation Care is assisting the family during this time. Jim's life and service will be remembered and honored in a ceremony that reflects his commitment to his country and the personal passions that brought him joy.
