Sandra Schumacher

January 13, 1943 — March 9, 2024

Sandra J. “Sandy” Schumacher was called home to our Lord on Saturday March 9, 2024.

Born January 30, 1943, in Columbus, OH, to Herbert “Ken” and Florence “Flo” Spellman Edwards, Sandy to all who knew her, was a creative and caring individual who touched the lives of everyone she met. Sandy knew no strangers. Everyone was a friend.

She married Walter C. Schumacher on June 19, 1966, and raised two active and sports-loving boys. She was involved with her sons’ lives and attended many games and tournaments. Sandy was born to take care of others: from her elderly grandfather to her parents, as they aged, to her grandchildren, as they grew up. She could be counted on to always offer help or advice to her younger sisters as well as her daughters-in-law.

Sandy was a graduate of Eastmoor High School and Mount Carmel School of Nursing. After nursing school, she re-located to Florida to take care of her grandfather and work as a nurse at Pinellas General Hospital in Largo, FL. It was here she met and married her future husband, Walter C Schumacher, a police officer. They met at Royal Castle, a burger joint in Largo frequented by people, like policemen, firemen and nurses, who worked the late shift. Sandy thought Walter was the most handsome man she had ever met, especially in his uniform. He was crazy about her, too.

She was a great cook and loved to entertain, was an amazing seamstress and enjoyed music, singing in the church choir and playing piano. As a young woman, she was lucky enough to own a Mercury Comet Caliente convertible. She often spoke fondly of it and any time she saw a convertible, she had to remind whoever would listen that she had a convertible when she was younger. She loved that car!

Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, Ken and Flo Edwards; sister, Jeri; and her husband.

She is survived by her children, Walter K. and his wife, Leslie and Fred and his wife, Micki; grandchildren, Trevor (Emma), Hannah (Phillip) and Noah (Megan); great grandchildren, Riley and Blakely; and her sister Terry.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday March 23, 2024 at Metro Baptist Church, 322 E. Cedar St., Goodlettsville, TN 37072
