Cedar Hill

“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.

My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.”

— Psalm 121:1–2

Sandra Jean (Milam) Hinkle, 73, of Cedar Hill, Tennessee, went home to her Lord on May 8, 2026. She was born September 19, 1952, in Charleston, West Virginia, and was raised on Campbell’s Creek in Kanawha County during the coal camp days — the kind of upbringing that builds steady, faithful, hard-working people, and Sandra was all three.

A devoted Christian, Sandra carried her faith quietly and faithfully through every season of life. She earned her LPN from the Tennessee College of Applied Technology in Nashville and spent her career in nursing, where her caring hands and gentle way brought comfort to many.

But above every title or accomplishment, Sandra was a mother and a grandmother. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the heart of her world, and loving them was her life’s calling.

She is survived by her daughter, Merilea Baltimore; her sons, Shon Butler and his fiancée Christina “Chrissy” Lemasters of Buckhannon, West Virginia, and Matt Butler and his wife Tracy of Westminster, Maryland; her sister, Karen Harper and her husband Ron; and her grandchildren: Christian Baltimore (Ryan), Samantha Baltimore (Anton), Courtney McCool (Derek), Ashley Nida (Cory), John Schroeder, Lilly Butler, Alecsis Butler, and Jasi Butler — along with the bonus grandchildren she lovingly welcomed as her own: Alyssa Lemasters, Kelsie Lemasters, Eli Lemasters, and Erica Lemasters. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren: Elijah, Bryson, and Addie, along with her bonus great-grandson, Jaxon (son of Erica Lemasters), who brought her tremendous joy in her later years.

She was preceded in death by her adoptive mother, Opal McClain; her father, Virgil Milam; her grandsons, Elijah Baltimore and Elisha Baltimore; and her great-grandson, Carter Adams.

In keeping with her wishes to return home to the West Virginia mountains she loved, Sandra will be cremated, and a memorial service will be held in Braxton County, West Virginia, at a time and place to be announced. She has lifted her eyes to the hills one final time — and gone home.
