Otis William Hackney passed away on July 10, 2026. He was born on December 27, 1926 to Otis M. and Annie Hackney in Guthrie, KY.
He resided in Guthrie until he joined the Navy, where he served seven years. He served during World War II and the Korean War as a frogman and was on the under water demolition team. He married Effie Hargrove and had two children, Jerry and Judy. He moved back to Guthrie and worked in the newspaper business in Clarksville. He then became the advertising manager of the Gallatin Examiner and later the Lebanon Democrat. In 1968 he went to work for Hickey Mitchell selling insurance to newspapers and later for Wilson Gregory before retiring. He later moved to Green Valley, AZ where he enjoyed playing golf with friends and soaking up the sunshine. He moved back to Clarksville to be near his daughter.
He was a proud member of the American Legion Post 289. They helped him in so many ways, especially Mark Mathis. Otis was a member of the Guthrie Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Effie Hargrove Hackney; first wife; Karol McVey Hackney; son, Jerry Hackney; daughter-in-law, Fessey Hackney; and grandchildren: Heather and Hunter. He is survived by his daughter, Judy (P.C.) Tucker; grandson, Michael (Jocelyn) Davenport; granddaughter, Christy (Tracey) Corbin; great grandchildren: Cameron Sullivan, Lexie Sullivan, Vincent Davenport, and Vittoria Davenport; and great-great grandson, Gage Sullivan.
A memorial service will be held on August 1, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Highland Cemetery, East Park Street, Guthrie, KY.
