James “Dale” McHargue, age 57, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, June 12, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of service, kindness, and compassion. A decorated Veteran of the United States Air Force, Dale dedicated 24 years of his life to his country, serving with honor and integrity.
Following his military career, Dale pursued his lifelong dream of becoming a chef, and graduated from the prestigious Culinary Institute of America with degrees in both Culinary Arts and Baking and Pastry. He found joy in creating meals that brought people together, and strived to make menus that warmed hearts as much as they filled plates. His love for cooking was matched only by his passion for gardening and woodworking ~ two quiet crafts through which he shaped beauty, nurtured life, and found peace.
Dale lived his life always thinking of others before himself. Whether offering a helping hand, a hot meal, or a kind word, his thoughtfulness touched lives with every small act of empathy. He was a gentle soul, a true friend to all creatures great and small, and took pride in being called the “Kitten Socialization Officer”.
He will forever be remembered for his infinite generosity, unwavering humility, and the genuine love he gave so freely to those around him.
Dale is survived by loving family, devoted friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know his immensely beautiful heart. He will be deeply missed beyond words.
