It is with profound sadness and heartfelt love that we announce the passing of MSG Daniel D. Lewis Sr., who departed this life on October 2, 2026, at the age of 83.
Daniel was born on August 11, 1943, in Mississippi, to Anthony and Annie Lewis. From an early age, Daniel learned the importance of family, perseverance, responsibility, and hard work—values that would guide him throughout his life and that he would later pass on to his children and grandchildren.
Daniel proudly served his country as a Master Sergeant in the United States Army. His military career was a reflection of his dedication, discipline, strength, and commitment to serving others. After retiring from the military, Daniel continued his commitment to providing for and supporting his family. He began his own landscaping business, turning his strong work ethic and determination into a successful second career.
Through his landscaping business, Daniel became much more than a service provider to many of his patrons. He was a familiar and trusted face whom they could depend on. He was loved and adored by many of whom he served faithfully and regularly throughout his years in the landscaping business. His hard work, reliability, and genuine care for the people he served left a lasting impression.
Above all else, Daniel was a devoted family man. He taught his children and grandchildren the value of hard work, perseverance, responsibility, and never giving up. Through his words and, more importantly, through the example he lived every day, he showed his family what it meant to work hard, take care of those you love, and remain committed to your responsibilities.
Daniel leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Christine Lewis; his children, Prevelo (DeQuita) Lewis, Daniel (Kunlathon) Lewis, Jr., and Anita (Timothy) Seay; and his grandchildren, Makayla Lewis, Phoenix Lewis-Spear, and Angel Salcido Jr.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Jessie Mae Smith, Otis Shaw Lewis, Izsaka Nkrumah, and Robert Lewis.
He leaves to cherish his memory his surviving siblings, Alice Lewis, David (Velma) Lewis, and Sadie (Jeff) Grady, along with a host of nieces, nephews, great- nieces, and great nephews friends, former patrons, fellow service members, and all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
Daniel’s life was a testament to service, hard work, family, and perseverance. He served his country, worked tirelessly to provide for his family, built meaningful relationships through his business, and instilled valuable life lessons in the generations that followed him.
His hands may no longer tend the earth, but the seeds he planted through his love, hard work, wisdom, and example will continue to grow in the lives of his family and all those he touched.
Though he may no longer walk beside us, his memory will remain forever in our hearts.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.” — Matthew 25:23
