Jack Lane Galloway, 79, formerly of Cullowhee, NC, passed away peacefully surrounded by family in Tennessee, on December 29, 2024, after an extended struggle with Alzheimer’s.
Jack was born on February 17, 1945, to the late Terry and Zephia Parker Galloway of Cullowhee. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 48 years, Pamela Deitz Galloway and brothers, Conley and Randy Galloway. He is survived by his son, Greg Galloway, of Tuckasegee, NC; daughter, Tina Conley; three granddaughters: Candler (Tyler) Evans, Ella Conley, and Averi Conley; and two great-granddaughters, Willa and Eloise Evans, all of Dover, TN.
Jack was a 1963 graduate of Cullowhee High School, where he returned in 1973 to teach Industrial Arts until his retirement from Cullowhee Valley School in 1995. He was Camp Lab’s Teacher of the Year in 1992. He received a Bachelors of Science in Education from WCC in 1967, began his teaching career at Bass High in Atlanta, and later completed a Master’s degree at WCU in 1976. Jack was a member of Cullowhee Baptist Church and grew up attending Wolf Creek Baptist Church.
Jack enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. On November 18, 1984, he caught a NC Wildlife record-setting tiger muskie in Fontana Lake. A dedicated NC Lifetime Sportsman, Jack was renowned for crafting custom fishing rods, tying flies, and mentoring others in the art of fishing. He served as president of the local chapters of both the Sportsman Club and Trout Unlimited, and he supported ruffed grouse restoration and other wildlife preservation projects.
A Celebration of Life and receiving of friends is scheduled for Sunday, February 16, 2025 at the Cullowhee Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
