David French, a longtime resident of Woodlawn, TN passed away in his home on July 1, 2026. He was born in Rockford, IL on January 12, 1952 the son of Perry and Frances “Peggy” French. David served in the Army and National Guard from February 1971 until completing his last enlistment January 1988.
Throughout his life David held many different jobs. He liked to say he was a master of some and still working on the rest. From aircraft mechanic to generator and vehicles,vinyl siding installer, fencing construction, farming and general helper delivering parts until he retired in June of 2015.
David had a love of the outdoors and enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and reloading ammo. As his youngest son got into Scouting, David volunteered to be a Tiger Cub leader and then Cubmaster for Troop 522. Always willing to lend a hand with a smile on his face. David was always there for family and friends.
David will be missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Debra French, sons Christopher “Mike” (Darla) French, David “Mat” French, his siblings Joyce (Frank) Jurasek, Perry (Sandy) French, Dean (Betty) French, and Marti (Robert) Maravich, with his nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
David was preceded in death by his parents Perry (Peggy) French, sister and husband Mary (Gary) Ballard, daughter and husband Fran (Bill) Close and a great granddaughter.
A celebration of life will be held in his honor at the Dotsonville Community Center on October 3, 2026 from 2-5 pm. Bring a picture, bring a story to share.
